A Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is a document that communicates information about hazardous chemical products and substances. This document (formerly known as Material Safety Data Sheets or MSDS’s) provides relevant technical information about a substance in regards to occupational health and safety in a chemical management workplace.
SDSs are important documents which include the following: relevant technical information on the substance, a list of its hazardous ingredients, chemical hazard data, control measures-such as proper engineering controls and personal protective equipment, instructions on accident prevention while using the substance, specific handling, storage and disposal procedures, and emergency procedures to follow in the event of an accident.
SDSs are not intended to be used by the general consumer but focus on the chemicals and potential hazards in an occupational workplace setting.
